Beware of the man of one book.

Here is what I am currently reading, digesting, loving and hating:

1. Sit, Walk, Stand by Watchman Nee. A humble, 90 page book that has altered by entire perspective on how we are to walk with Christ, or rather “sit” with Him. Amazing book.

2. Grace (Eventually) Thoughts on Faith by Anne Lamott. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is your typical girly-evangelical read. It is more like a very long blog from the mind of a hippie, prayer-loving democrat. It is funny, sad, honest and really stretched my thinking. Except when she goes on and on for her genuine hate for George Bush. I mean like deep, personal hate for him. And one chapter on abortion that was a bit tough to get through… all right I just skipped it after the first page.

3. Gonzo: The Life of Hunter S. Thompson by Jann S. Wenner (founder and editor-in-chief of Rolling Stone, longtime friend). I am only 1/4 through this book but it is amazing. Thompson was a self-serving narcissist who only lived to please and humor himself, but man, did he have some weird adventures. Favorite Story so far: the drunk monkey he kept in his pocket while he lived in Puerto Rico (Rum Diary days), the monkey threw up in his pocket, stinking up his jacket and eventually jumped from his 10 story balcony.
